You already know how to use Twitter, but how do you make use of the platform to promote your music?
Twitter is a great music marketing tool but you have to use it right. If you want to promote your music on Twitter read the following five tips carefully as they are all important when tweeting about your music!
DO NOT SPAM YOUR MUSIC!
Twitter is a place for networking, discussion, and fun – no one wants to be spammed there. If you are thinking about DMing everyone you follow with a link to your music or tagging everyone you know with a link to your Spotify – FORGET IT, that won’t work! Instead think about how you can contribute to conversations on the platform, get involved with music chats, and only share your music where it feels appropriate and wanted!
BE CONSISTENT.
Twitter’s algorithm is very powerful and recognizes patterns of behavior. It doesn’t matter if you plan to tweet a few times a day, a few times a week or a few times an hour but whatever your strategy is, stick to it and keep going!
When you do share your music on Twitter, always use a smart link. This will allow people to listen to your music no matter which streaming/download platform they like best. It will also give you valuable data on your fans to inform future marketing decisions.
RE-TWEET, ENGAGE AND SHARE OTHER PEOPLE’S CONTENT
Don’t expect people to share your music if you are not supporting them. A little bit of Twitter love goes a long way.
THINK BEFORE YOU TWEET
Over the past few years, many people have been ‘cancelled’ for something they tweeted many years ago. Don’t be offensive and don’t tweet anything you would not say to your mum!
Twitter also has a range of advertising products you might want to consider, check out ads.twitter.com to learn more.
