Want the blue checkmark next to your artist name on Spotify? Here’s how to get it.
Getting verified on Spotify helps your artist page look more professional, allows you to brand your playlists, notify your followers of new releases and of course gives you that all important blue tick!
Please note: This guide is for artists, if you are a label looking for verification on Spotify we suggest talking to your digital distributor who should be able to arrange this for you as this is a slightly different process.
Step 1. Get at least 250 people to follow you on Spotify
The first and most important step to getting verified on Spotify is to build your fanbase to 250 followers or more. Spotify will not consider verifying an artist page until it reaches 250 fans. If you already have over 250 fans skip to step 2, if not, keep reading..
Building fans on Spotify can seem like a daunting task at first but don’t worry we have some great tips to help you get to that all important 250 fan milestone.
5 Tips for building a Spotify fanbase:
1. Ask your fans on your other social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc) to follow you.
You have worked hard to build a fanbase on social media, these people have already shown an interest in you by following / liking your accounts so there is a god chance they may also want to follow you on Spotify. You may also want to consider running some boosted posts on Facebook that target those fans on your Facebook page that also ‘like’ Spotify, that way it is more likely the people reached will be relevant.
2. Use a fan gate to give a free download or some exclusive content to people who follow you on Spotify.
Platforms like hypeddit, Toneden and WAVO offer services to create fan gates where content is locked until users follow you on Spotify. This can be a very fast and effective way to build an audience on Spotify.
3. Add the Spotify Follow Button to your artist website.
This will allow fans to follow you with a single click without even leaving your website.
4. Create playlists and share them online.
Influencers who create popular playlists on Spotify grow their followers much faster than those that don’t. Share your amazing taste in music with the people who care what you think. Build a playlist of your favorite songs and share it across your social media and website.
5. Follow other users and become part of the Spotify community.
The more you engage with the Spotify community the faster your fan base will grow. Follow other users that playlist music you like or artists similar to yourself, share user curated playlists that include your music on your social media and become an active Spotify user.
If you follow the tips above (and of course continue to release good music!) you will be well on your way to hitting the magic 250 followers. Once you have you can move on to step 2 and get your account verified.
Step 2. Apply for a verified account.
So you now have 250 followers, what’s next..
Spotify have made the verification process pretty simple for artists that have reached this stage. Fill in the artist verification form which can be found here and be sure to enter all of your correct artist details. Once filled in sit back and wait. Verification can take up to four weeks so be patient.
Step 3. What’s next?
Wahooo! You have a blue tick, now what’s next?
Now that you have been verified you will be able to access the ‘Fan Insights’ tool for better analytics on your music’s performance. You will also be able to add images and descriptions to your playlists. Make the most of these features, they can make a big difference when used correctly!
