Profile Description
The MU represents over 30,000 musicians. We work for you by negotiating with all the major employers in the industry, as well as offering services, benefits and advice tailored to your needs at every stage of your career.
Be free from insurance worries.
Members are insured for legal liability of £10m, to cover injury to members of the public or damage to property. You also get instrument and equipment insurance up to £2,000, Personal Accident cover and tax investigation cover.
Avoid legal wrangle.
Whenever members have disputes over unpaid fees, cancellations, injury compensation, intellectual property rights, or need help with contracts for recording, songwriting, touring or merchandising, the MU’s legal team is there to help — at no extra cost.
Get the recognition you deserve.
Boost your career with professional development advice, free training, and networking events. Regional officials offer a face to face service on your day to day problems, and we have specialist officials to give advice on specific areas of your work.
Be sure your voice is heard.
We campaign for fair pay, arts funding, music education and live music in theatres and beyond. And, with 30,000 members, we can influence policy in all Parliaments and Assemblies. Lobbying successes include the Live Music Act and its extension, which have made it easier to put on gigs at the grassroots level. We’re also fighting for a fair internet for performers, and to make it easier for you to travel with instruments.
Be better represented.
The MU only represents musicians. We are your union. We do not have corporate members. In everything we do, from legal cases to lobbying and from campaigns to negotiations, you can be confident that the MU is only ever acting in the interests of you – the musician.
